CALICO BEAN SOUP 
Beans
2 tsp. salt
2 1/2 qt. water
1 lg. onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1 ham bone
1 1/2 lb. ham pieces
Lg. can tomatoes
Juice of 1 lemon
Salt and pepper to taste

Rinse beans, add 2 teaspoons salt and water to cover. Soak overnight. Drain and put in large pan. Add water, onion, garlic, ham bone and pieces, tomatoes, and lemon juice. Simmer 4 hours or longer. Salt and pepper to taste. Flavor improves with age.
