THE FAMILY CHOCOLATE CAKE 
2/3 c. Crisco
2 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1/2 scant c. cocoa
1 c. buttermilk
1 c. boiling water

Cream shortening and sugar. Beat eggs until light and add vanilla. Add to first mixture. Sift flour, soda, salt and cocoa. Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk. Add boiling water last. Mix on medium speed for 2 minutes. Bake in 9"x13" pan for 45 minutes at 350 degrees or in 2 (9") layer pans for 30 to 35 minutes. Use Minute Fudge Frosting when cool.

MINUTE FUDGE FROSTING:

1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. cocoa
1/2 c. milk
2 c. sugar
1/4 tsp. salt

Melt butter and add other ingredients, stirring over low heat until sugar dissolves. Bring to boiling boil and boil 1 minute. Remove from heat and beat until creamy enough to spread.
