APPLE DUMPLINGS 
2 c. shortening
4 c. flour
1 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking powder
1 egg
1/2 c. water
3 tbsp. lemon juice

For the crust mix together shortening, flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, egg, water and lemon juice. Divide dough into 12 balls. Roll each ball into crust large enough to cover apples.

FILLING:

12 med. sized Northern Spy apples, pared and cored
1 tbsp. brown sugar per apple
Pinch of cinnamon and 1 tsp. butter per apple

Put brown sugar, cinnamon and butter in center of each apple and wrap, closing at top. Put in shallow pan.

SAUCE:

2 c. water
2 tbsp. butter
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon

Pour sauce over top and bake at 475 degrees for 8 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Serve warm with ice cream or Cool Whip.
