DOUGHNUTS 
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
4 c. flour
1 c. milk
2 tbsp. melted shortening
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. salt

Beat eggs; add sugar gradually. Mix in shortening. Sift dry ingredients and add alternately with milk. Chill 1 hour. Roll dough on floured board to 1/4 inch thick. Cut with doughnut cutter. Fry in hot fat.

HINTS: Roll doughnuts in sugar or sugar and cinnamon while still warm. Shortening in doughnuts should be lard or solid vegetable shortening, melted. Fry in vegetable oil to lessen cholesterol.
