LUMBERJACKS 
1 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
1 c. dark molasses
2 eggs
4 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger

Cream the sugar and shortening. Add molasses and eggs, then dry ingredients. Have at hand a small bowl of sugar. Dipping the fingers into the sugar, pinch off a ball of cookie dough, about walnut sized. Dip the ball into the sugar, arrange on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes.

This recipe makes about 4 dozen large soft cookies. This dough keeps indefinitely in a refrigerator.
