APPLESAUCE DOUGHNUTS 
4 1/2 c. sifted flour
3 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
1 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1 tsp. baking soda
1 (1 lb.) can applesauce (2 c.)
4 eggs
1 c. sugar
1 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
2 tbsp. cooking oil
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. milk
Sugar

Sift together flour, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and cloves. Set aside. Stir baking soda into applesauce. Beat eggs well. Gradually add 1 cup sugar, brown sugar, and oil, beating well. Beat in applesauce mixture and vanilla. Add dry ingredients alternately with milk, mixing well. Drop by tablespoonfuls into hot oil (375 degrees). Fry until golden brown. Drain on paper towels. Roll in sugar. Makes 5 dozen.
