2 boxes spice cake mix

Prepare according to package directions, except substitute applesauce for liquid and add 1/2 teaspoon baking soda. Bake in 9 x 13 inch pan. Spread with Coconut Topping.

COCONUT TOPPING:

2/3 c. melted butter
1 c. firmly packed light brown sugar
1/2 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
Few grains of salt
2 c. flaked coconut
1 c. broken nut meats

Combine all ingredients and mix well. Spread on cake and broil slowly until golden brown (approximately 5 minutes).
