CHALLAH BREAD 
1 3/4 to 2 c. flour
1/3 c. water
1/4 c. sweet butter, softened
1/2 tsp. salt
1 beaten egg
Extra butter to grease bowl
1 pkg. active dry yeast
2 tbsp. sugar
1 egg
Extra flour to knead dough

Mix 1 cup flour and yeast. Place water, butter, sugar and salt in pan. Heat on low to 120 degrees. Add flour/yeast mixture and egg. Beat 5 minutes. Stir in remaining flour. Knead dough 5-8 minutes. Grease large bowl and place dough in to rise until double its size (1 1/2 hours).

Punch down dough; knead. Divide into 3 equal balls. Allow to rest 15 minutes. Roll each ball into long rope and braid together. Pinch ends. Put on greased cookie sheet. Let rise 45 minutes. Spread beaten egg on top and bake 15-20 minutes at 350 degrees.
