CRISPY DATE BARS 
CRUST:

1 c. flour
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. butter

FILLING:

1 c. chopped dates
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter
1 egg, beaten
2 c. crisp rice cereal
1 c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. vanilla

FROSTING:

2 c. powdered sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
3 oz. cream cheese

Heat oven to 375 degrees.

In small bowl, combine crust ingredients, mix until crumbly. Press crumb mixture in 9 x 13 inch pan. Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes.

In medium saucepan, combine dates, sugar and butter. Cook over medium heat until mixture boils, stir constantly, simmer 3 minutes. Blend 1/4 cup hot mixture into beaten egg, return to saucepan. Cook until mixture bubbles, stir constantly. Remove from heat - stir in rice cereal, nuts and vanilla. Spread over baked crust, cool completely.

In small bowl, combine frosting ingredients, beat at low speed until smooth. Spread over filling. Cut into bars. Very rich and sweet. A blue ribbon winner at a State Fair!
