GRANDMOTHER'S DONUTS 
8 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
4 eggs
1/4 c. vinegar and enough sweet milk to make 2 cups

Sift dry ingredients together. Cream shortening, with sugar and add eggs, beat well. Add dry ingredients along with milk only until well blended. Roll small amount of dough at a time 1/3 inch thick. Cut donuts and let stand about 10 minutes. Fry in hot fat (365 degrees) to delicate brown, turn once. Drain on absorbent paper.

GLAZE:

Blend together 2 cups sifted confectioners' sugar, 1/3 cup milk, 1 teaspoon vanilla. Dip doughnuts into glaze. Drain on rack set over waxed paper.
