ASHLEY'S APPLE CRISP OR PIE
(WITH WHIPPED CREAM)

3 apples, peeled and sliced
1/2 cup all-purpose flour, sifted
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter

Preheat oven to 375°F.

Grease 8-inch baking pan. Place apple slices in pan evenly.

In medium bowl mix: flour, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Cut in butter using knives until mixture looks like coarse crumbs. Spread mixture evenly over apples.

Variation: Instead of an 8-inch baking pan bake in a store bought (pre-made) pie crust.

Bake at 375°F for 25 to 30 minutes or until fork tender. Let cool about 10 minutes.

Serve warm with fresh whipped cream, if desired.

FRESH WHIPPED CREAM:

1/2 cup heavy cream
1 tbsp. confectioners' sugar
1/4 tsp. vanilla

Use hand mixer at high speed. Whip heavy cream with confectioners' sugar and vanilla. Add more sugar to taste if desired. Used chilled metal bowl and beaters for best results. Stop when cream holds stiff peaks.
