DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE 
1 1/2 c. sifted flour
1 1/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. cocoa
1 1/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. salt
2/3 c. shortening
2/3 c. sweet milk
2 eggs, unbeaten
1/3 c. milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Sift together flour, sugar, cocoa, soda, cream of tartar and salt. Add shortening and sweet milk. Beat for 2 minutes at #3 speed. Add eggs, milk and vanilla. Beat for 2 minutes at #3 speed. Pour into 2 greased layer pans and bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes. "This is the most wonderful Devil's Food Cake I've every seed."
