FRESH STRAWBERRY CAKE 
1 stick butter
1/3 c. shortening
1 3/4 c. granulated sugar
1/2 c. fresh crushed strawberries
1 (6 oz.) pkg. strawberry gelatin
2 2/3 c. sifted all purpose flour
3 1/2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. salt
1 1/3 c. sweet milk
1 tsp. vanilla
4 egg whites, stiffly beaten

ICING:

1 lb. sifted confectioners sugar
1/4 stick butter, softened
1/2 c. fresh crushed strawberries

Cream butter, shortening, and sugar until fluffy. Add strawberries and gelatin; beat well. Sift together dry ingredients and add alternately with milk. Add vanilla and beat well. Fold in egg whites. Turn into 3 greased and floured 9 inch cake pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes. When cake is cool, blend the confectioners sugar, softened butter and strawberries. Beat thoroughly and spread between layers.
