HATTIE'S DATE LOAF CAKE 
1 1/2 lbs. pecan halves
1 1/2 lbs. dates, cut into pieces
3/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
4 1/2 tsp. baking powder
6 eggs, beaten

Rinse bowl in which eggs were beaten with 1/2 cup water. Mix dry ingredients and sift well. Add dates and nuts, mixing well. Add beaten eggs, stir and mix well. Add water and mix again.

Grease 2 loaf pans and line with foil or heavy paper and grease again. Pour mixture into pans. Steam until fairly solid. Bake in 300 degree oven until light brown.
