BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES | |
1 gallon thinly sliced cucumbers 2 cups sliced onions 2 or 3 red peppers, sliced 1/2 cup salt 4 to 5 cups white sugar 1 tsp. turmeric 1/2 tsp. celery seed 1 tbsp. white mustard seed 2 quarts white vinegar Wash and slice cucumbers thin. Wash and slice onions thin. Wash and slice red peppers thin. Cover with salt and let stand for 2 hours. Drain and rinse. Mix sugar, turmeric, celery seed, mustard seed and vinegar together. Pour over cucumber mixture and heat to scalding, but don't boil. Stir from time to time. Seal in hot sterile jars. Submitted by: Tammy |
