COTTAGE PUDDING (BERRY CAKE) 
1/4 c. soft butter
1 c. sugar
1 lg. egg
3/4 c. milk
1 3/4 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. berries (fresh and well drained)

Beat butter and sugar until creamy, add egg, beat again. Alternate flour and milk as you beat. Gently fold in berries. Spread in 8 inch or 9 inch square pan (greased and floured). Sprinkle sugar on top. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes. Serve with or without milk. Recipe can be doubled.
