POUND CAKE 
3 c. sugar
3 c. plain flour (use Red Band, never fails)
1 1/2 c. butter or 2 sticks butter
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. Crisco
1 c. milk
1 tsp. baking powder
Pinch of salt
5 eggs
1 1/2 tsp. lemon extract

Cream sugar and Crisco. Add milk. Add flour, baking powder, and salt. Separate eggs, beat whites and add last. Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Pour batter in pan and bake for 45 minutes. Raise oven heat to 300 degrees and bake an additional 45 minutes. Cake will be done, but do not open oven door until cake has left edge of pan.
