5 lbs. flour 3 1/2 c. sugar 1 tbsp. salt 10 eggs, well beaten 1 lb. melted butter 2 c. lukewarm milk 4 cakes or pkg. yeast 1 c. lukewarm water, which was previously boiled with 6 cinnamon sticks Sift flour, sugar and salt into very large bowl. In a large pan (a turkey pan is perfect), combine eggs, butter, milk, yeast, which has been softened in 1/2 cup warm water, and cinnamon water and gradually blend into the flour mixture. use your hands to mix and knead the dough until it is smooth and soft. Cover and let sit in a warm place for 4 to 5 hours. When the dough has risen, punch down with well-floured hands and separate into 4 batches. Separate each batch into 3 long ropes. Pinch 1 end of 3 ropes together and braid, then pinch the end of the braid together. Form into a loose round circle and put into a well-greased large round pan. Place a hard-boiled red egg in the middle of the dough. Let sit in a warm place 1 to 1 1/2 hours until the dough rises again. Brush with a well-beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame seed. Bake at 350 degrees 40 minutes. Do the same with the remaining 3 batches. Makes 4 loaves. |
