PRUNE BREAD 
2 c. chopped seeded prunes, uncooked
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tbsp. butter
1 1/4 c. sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 tsp. salt
4 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. chopped nuts

Pour 2 cups boiling water over prunes, dissolve soda with water and prunes and let stand while mixing the rest of ingredients. Cream butter, sugar, egg, vanilla, salt. Add flour alternately with strained water from prunes to creamed mixture. Then add nuts and prunes. Bake in 2 loaves, lightly greased at 325 degrees for 45 to 55 minutes. You may substitute 2 tablespoons strained water for 2 tablespoons molasses.
