2 c. pecan halves 1 c. white sugar 1 c. light brown sugar 1/4 c. water 2 tsp. vanilla 3/4 c. canned milk (not condensed milk) 3/4 stick butter 1/4 tsp. salt 1 pinch soda Toast pecans in very slow oven, do not brown, just toast a little bit. Put all ingredients, except vanilla, in a thick saucepan on slow fire, stirring slowly around edges constantly to keep sugar from collecting on sides of pan. When candy has cooked down some, add slightly toasted pecans and stir slowly to keep from sticking. When you can see the bottom of the pan (real good) when you run the spoon through it, take from the fire. Add vanilla, stir until slightly cool and candy begins to lose its gloss. Drop by spoonful on waxed paper or foil. If candy gets too hard to drop, put back on real low fire just until it softens enough to drop. |
