AUNT BETTY'S FRUIT CAKE 
2 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
3 eggs
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. each - soda, nutmeg, cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk
1 c. each - nuts, raisins, currants, lightly chopped or broken walnuts

Cream sugar and shortening. Add eggs. Sift dry ingredients together. Add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, a small amount at a time. Beat after each addition until smooth. Stir in nuts, raisins and currants.

Bake in greased and floured 10 inch round tube pan on bottom rack of oven for 75 minutes at 350 degrees. Let cool completely in pan.

If you only have "bake" - "broil" on your oven, follow these instructions. Sit cake pan on cookie sheet - on second rack from bottom. Test cake at 60 minutes and every 5 minutes after with toothpick until done.
