GRANDMA JESSIE'S APPLESAUCE
RAISIN CAKE
 
2 c. sugar
1 c. melted shortening
2 1/2 c. chunky applesauce with 3 tsp. baking soda in it
1 c. (or more) raisins
4 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. cloves
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. allspice

Combine sugar, melted shortening, applesauce-soda mixture and let sit until foamy. Sift together flour, salt, and spices. Stir in raisins. Add to first mixture, stir until blended. Put into greased and floured 9 x 13 inch cake pan and bake at 350 degrees ONLY until edges pull away from pan (approximately 45 minutes.) Do not overbake. Cool and frost with Buttercream frosting.
