OLD FASHIONED MOLASSES TAFFY | |
2/3 c. molasses 1/3 c. light corn syrup 1 1/2 c. brown sugar 1 1/2 tbsp. cider vinegar or reg. 1/2 c. water 1/4 tsp. salt 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1/4 c. butter Combine the molasses, syrup, sugar, vinegar, water and salt. Bring slowly to boiling point, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Then cook to hard ball stage (258 to 260 degrees F.). Remove from heat. Add baking soda and butter and stir just enough to blend. Turn into a large shallow buttered pan and when cool enough to handle, pull out quickly until it changes from brown to light yellow. Twist into braids and cut into individual pieces, scissors dipped in butter. When cold wrap each piece in waxed paper. |
