EASY NUT CAKE 
8 eggs, separated
2 c. ground walnuts
2 c. ground Zweiback
2 c. sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. vanilla
Syrup

Beat egg whites until stiff and set aside. Beat egg yolks well; add sugar and dry ingredients. Gently fold in beaten egg whites and mix well. Pour into buttered 13 x 9 inch pan and bake in 350 degree oven for 30 to 40 minutes. Test center with toothpick. Serves 12.

SYRUP:

2 c. sugar
1 1/4 c. water
Juice of 1/2 lemon

Bring all ingredients to a boil and simmer for 20 minutes. Pour warm syrup over cool cake. Cut into diamond shape pieces and garnish each with maraschino cherries.
