PECAN PIE SURPRISE BARS 
1 pkg. yellow cake mix, less 2/3 c. reserved for filling
1/2 c. butter, melted
1 egg

FILLING:

2/3 c. reserved cake mix
1/2 c. firmly packed brown sugar
1 1/2 c. corn syrup, half light/half dark
1 tsp. vanilla
3 eggs

TOPPING:

1 c. chopped pecans

Grease a 9 x 13 inch pan. In a large bowl, combine the crust ingredients. Mix with fork until crumbly. Press into pan and bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes or until light brown.

While crust is baking, prepare filling. Combine all filling ingredients and beat at medium speed on electric mixer for 1 to 2 minutes. Pour over the partially baked crust and sprinkle with the pecans.

Return to oven and bake 30 to 35 minutes until the filling is set. Cool. Cut into bars. To serve as a dessert, cut into large squares and top with Cool Whip.
