OATMEAL CRISPIES 
1 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. white sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
3 c. quick oats
1 c. raisins or dates
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Cream together shortening and sugars; beat in eggs and vanilla. Sift together flour, salt, and soda; stir into creamed mixture. Stir in oats, raisins, and nuts.

Form into small balls; place 1 1/2 inches apart on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees about 10 minutes or until lightly brown. Cool slightly before removing to cooling rack. Makes about 6 dozen cookies.
