OLD FASHIONED BAKED BEANS 
2 lbs. dried Navy beans
8 oz. bacon, chopped
1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. packed brown sugar
1/2 c. butter

Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Combine beans and water to cover in large saucepan. Bring to a boil. Simmer for 1 hour. Add bacon. Simmer until beans are tender and skins begin to peel.

Add sugar and salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for 30 minutes longer. Pour into bean pot. Stir in butter until melted. Bake for 5 to 6 hours. Yields: 12.
