PATTIE AND RAMANA'S GINGER
COOKIES
 
3/4 c. shortening
1 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1/4 c. mild molasses
2 1/2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger

Cream shortening and sugar. Add egg and beat well. Add molasses, soda, salt, and spices and mix. Stir in flour. Chill dough.

Roll in small walnut sized balls. Dip in granulated sugar. DO NOT PRESS DOWN. Sprinkle with water and bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes. DO NOT OVER BAKE. Let cookies cool 1 minute before removing from sheet. Very brownie-like texture.
