OATMEAL CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES 
1 1/2 c. flour, sifted
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 c. Crisco shortening
3/4 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
3/4 c. granulated sugar
2 eggs (unbeaten)
1 tsp. hot water
1 c. nutmeats, cut fine
1 (12 oz.) pkg. semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 c. oatmeal (quick or regular) (uncooked)
1 tsp. vanilla

Sift flour once before measuring, then sift with baking soda and salt. Cream shortening until soft. Add sugar gradually, creaming until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Add vanilla. Add hot water; beat well. Then add sifted dry ingredients. Stir in nuts, chocolate chips and oatmeal. Blend well. Drop by half teaspoons on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes. Makes about 100.
