BUTTERSCOTCH THINS 
1/4 c. butter
1/4 c. lard
1/3 c. white sugar
1/3 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1 1/2 c. sifted flour
3/4 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. vanilla
1/3 c. walnuts

May use 1/2 cup butter in place of butter and lard.

Melt butter, add sugars and mix well. Add egg, beat until light colored. Sift flour and soda together. Stir into mixture, add vanilla and nuts. Roll in waxed paper and chill, then slice thin and bake on ungreased cookie sheet in moderate oven.
