BABKA BREAD
1/4 lb. butter
1 c. sugar
7 c. flour
2 tbsp. yeast or 2 pkg. yeast
Few drops of rum
1/3 c. lukewarm water
2 c. scalded milk
Pinch of salt
2 eggs
3/4 c. raisins, golden or dark

GLAZE:

1 egg yolk
1 tbsp. sugar

Mix scalded milk with sugar and butter. Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water. Put aside. When milk mixture has cooled, add yeast and eggs, slightly beaten, to it and blend well. Add raisins to flour and mix. Then pour milk/egg mixture into flour and beat until flour is well mixed in. Let rise for 1 1/2 hours. Knead until elastic to touch.

Put into 3 greased small loaf pans. Let rise for about 1 hour. Bake at 375 degrees. Just before end of baking time, brush bread with glaze made of the egg yolk and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Yield: 3 small loaves.
