DATE BARS 
3/4 c. shortening
3/4 c. brown sugar
1 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 3/4 c. oatmeal

FILLING:

1 lb. dates
1/2 tsp. salt
3 tbsp. sugar
2 1/2 c. water
1/2 c. raisins
1/2 tsp. lemon juice
1/2 c. nuts

Mix until crumbly. Then pat 3/4 in a 9"x12" pan. Spread with date filling. Sprinkle remainder on top. Pat down lightly. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

FILLING: Cook ingredients together. Cool and spread on crust.
