GREEN TOMATO PICKLES 
20 lb. green tomatoes
1/2 c. salt
2 qt. water
6 lb. sm. onions
2 qt. vinegar
5 - 8 c. sugar, to taste
2 pkg. pickling spices (place in mesh bag; can be made with stocking and tied at ends)

Slice tomatoes and place in kettle with salt and water. Soak overnight. Rinse and drain. Peel and slice onions. Boil vinegar, sugar and spices 15 minutes. Add tomatoes and onions and boil 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Seal in hot sterilized jars. Makes 10 pints.
