SHERI'S WHOLE WHEAT ROLLS | |
1 c. warm milk 1/4 c. packed brown sugar (plus 1 lump) 3/4 tsp. salt 1 egg (room temp.) 1/4 c. melted (not hot) shortening 1/4 c. lukewarm water 1 pkg. yeast 1 1/2 c. whole wheat flour, sifted 2 - 2 1/2 c. unbleached flour, sifted Dissolve yeast in water. Set aside. Mix milk, sugar and salt in mixing bowl. Add whole wheat flour; mix. Add egg; mix. Add dissolved yeast; mix. Add shortening; mix. Stir in enough flour to make a moderately stiff dough. Turn out on floured surface. Let stand 10 minutes. Knead 10-12 minutes. Place in greased bowl. Let rise until doubled. Punch down. Shape into rolls. Place in greased pan (13x9) or 2 (8 inch) rounds. Let rise until doubled. Bake at 400 degrees for 10-12 minutes. |
