FRESH APPLE CAKE 
1 stick butter
2 eggs
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 c. nuts, optional
2 c. sugar
2 c. flour
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
3 c. chopped apples
Dash ground cloves, optional

Cream butter, add sugar, beat until fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Sift dry ingredients together, gradually add to egg mixture, stir in apples and nuts. bake in 9 x 13 pan at 325 degrees for 50 minutes.

TOPPING:

1 1/2 c. brown sugar
1/8 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
3/4 stick butter
3/4 c. evaporated milk

Mix together all but vanilla, cook to soft ball stage, beat until thick and spreading consistency. Add vanilla and spread over warm cake. May be left in baking pan.
