OLD FASHION STACK CAKE 
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. shortening
1 c. molasses
1 c. buttermilk
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. ground ginger
Dash of salt
5 1/2 c. plain flour
6 2/3 c. apple butter

Combine sugar, shortening and molasses. Beat until smooth. Add buttermilk, eggs, soda, ginger and salt. Mix well. Add flour 1 cup at a time. Beat after each addition, until blended (don't over beat).

Divide dough into ten portions. Place each portion on a greased cookie sheet and pat into a ten-inch circle. Bake at 350 degrees for 5 to 7 minutes. Remove to cooling rack. Stack in layers, spreading about 2/3 cup apple butter between each layer.
