2 tsp. butter 1/2 - 1 c. diced onion 1/2 - 1 c. diced green pepper 1 garlic clove, minced 1/2 - 1 lb. ground beef or ground turkey 1/2 - 1 c. Italian tomatoes (with liquid), pureed & strained (discard seeds) 2 tbsp. ketchup 1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce 1 tsp. chili powder 1/4 tsp. dry mustard Pita breads In non-stick skillet heat butter over medium high heat until bubbly and hot; add onion, bell pepper and garlic, and saute until tender, 2 to 3 minutes. Add ground beef (or ground turkey), tomatoes, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder and mustard to the skillet, mixing well. Reduce heat to low and cook, stirring frequently until mixture thickens and is heated through, 8 to 10 minutes. Fill each pita with mixture and serve. |
