MRS. SUMMER'S OLD FASHIONED TEA
CAKES

2 sticks butter, softened
1 1/4 c. sugar
3 c. all purpose flour
2 eggs
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. buttermilk with 1 tsp. baking soda dissolved in it
1 tsp. vanilla

Cream butter and sugar; add eggs and vanilla, buttermilk and soda, then work in flour. Mix well with a rubber spatula. Dough will be soft. Place on waxed paper and cover. Chill for at least 1 hour. Roll out on floured cloth or board to 1/8 inch thickness and cut. (I use a biscuit cutter). Bake at 350 degrees until very lightly browned. Do not overbake.
