CHOCOLATE CAKE 
3/4 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
3 eggs
3 c. flour
1/2 c. cocoa
1 tsp. salt
1 c. sour milk, with 1 tsp. vanilla added
1 c. water
2 tsp. baking soda added

Cream together shortening, sugar, eggs, cocoa, and salt. Add alternately with flour and milk. Boil 1 cup water; to that add soda. Add that to the chocolate mixture; add in a little bit until all mixed. Pour into 3 (8 inch) pans or a 13 x 9 x 2 inch pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes for layers and 45 minutes for oblong pan.

FUDGE FROSTING:

3 oz. bitter chocolate, cut fine
2 1/4 c. sugar
6 tbsp. butter
3 tbsp. shortening
1 1/2 tbsp. corn syrup
1/4 tsp. salt
3/4 c. milk
