CANDIED PICKLES 
11 c. water
1 c. salt
1 gallon sliced cucumbers
2 tbsp. alum
3 tbsp. pickling spice
9 c. sugar
Vinegar

Dissolve salt in water and pour over sliced cucumbers. Let stand five days. Drain and rinse thoroughly. Then cover with water and 2 tablespoons alum. Let stand 2 hours, then drain. Cover completely with vinegar and 3 tablespoons pickling spices. Let stand 24 hours. Drain off vinegar. Add 3 cups sugar (as it dissolves) for next 3 days until 9 cups of sugar has been added. Let stand 3 days, pack into jars and seal.
