FRENCH COOKIES 
2 c. brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
3 c. flour
1 c. melted Crisco
1 c. hot water with 1 tsp. baking soda dissolved in it
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. baking powder

Cream sugar and eggs; add vanilla. Mix dry ingredients and add alternately with the melted Crisco and water. Bake 375 degrees 15 minutes.

May substitute hot water with cup of coffee; add raisins, coconut or nuts or bake in cookie sheet and cut in bars.
