REAL ITALIAN TOMATO SAUCE | |
2 lg. (1 lb. 13 oz.) cans tomato puree 2 lg. (8 oz.) cans Contadina tomato paste 2 lbs. Italian sweet sausage 1/4 c. pure olive oil or olive oil 1 tbsp. crushed garlic oil 1 1/2 clove garlic 1/2 c. granulated sugar 1/4 tsp. table salt 1/4 tsp. ground black pepper 1 tbsp. ground basil leaves Place in a 10 quart cooking pot, place the olive oil and garlic and Italian sausage and brown the sausage and garlic cloves. After the browning process of the meat, pour in the tomato puree, tomato paste and fill the pot with cold water and mix well. Pour in the sugar and the ground black pepper and table salt and the Italian ground basil leaves; cook on a low flame for 2 or 3 hours. Keep stirring the tomato sauce. It prevents from burning at the bottom of the cooking pot. The water down tomato sauce will decrease in volume, keep pouring cold water in the Italian homemade sauce. Also remember to remove the pot with the browned sausage from the flame and then pour the tomato puree and tomato paste in the pot. The Italian style tomato sauce if set overnight in the refrigerator tastes better. It settles the sauce remarkable taste and flavor. This Italian style tomato sauce is for the baked lasagna, this is the tomato sauce that's placed over the layers of lasagna noodles and cheese mixture that is spread on the Italian cooked lasagna noodles. |
