ITALIAN CREAM CAKE | |
1 c. buttermilk 5 eggs 1/2 c. shortening 1 tsp. vanilla 1 c. coconut 1 tsp. baking soda 1 stick butter 2 c. sugar 2 c. flour 1 c. nuts, chopped ICING: 1 (8 oz.) Philadelphia cream cheese 1 stick butter 1 tsp. vanilla 1 box powdered sugar Have ingredients at room temperature. Beat sugar, butter and shortening. Separate eggs. Add egg yolks, flour, coconut, nuts and vanilla to sugar mixture. Put soda in buttermilk; add alternately with dry ingredients. Fold in beaten egg whites. Bake at 325 degrees in three layers. Let set in pan 15 minutes before removing. Cover with icing. |
