MILE HIGH BISCUITS 
3 c. all-purpose flour
2 tbsp. sugar
1 tbsp. plus 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
3/4 tsp. cream of tartar
3/4 tsp. salt
3/4 c. solid shortening
1 egg, beaten
3/4 c. milk

Combine first 5 ingredients. Cut in shortening. Combine egg and milk and beat well. Add to flour mixture. Turn onto a well floured surface and knead 8 or 10 times. Roll out to 1 inch thickness. Cut with biscuit cutter and place in well greased pans. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes or until brown.
