SPONGE CANDY 
1 c. sugar
1 c. dark corn syrup
1 tbsp. white vinegar
1 tbsp. baking soda

CHOCOLATE COATING:

1 tsp. shortening
12 oz. chocolate chips

Heat sugar, corn syrup and vinegar together. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Cook without further stirring until mix reaches 300 degrees. Remove from heat and add baking soda. Stir rapidly; pour into lightly buttered 9 x 9 x 2 inch pan. DO NOT SPREAD. When cool, break into chunks.

Chocolate Coating: Melt ingredients in top of double boiler (or microwave). Dip chunks of candy in chocolate. Set on wax paper to dry chocolate.

Since microwave ovens vary in power, you may need to adjust your cooking time.
