RED VELVET CAKE 
1 c. Crisco
1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. salt
1 c. buttermilk
2 (1 oz.) red food coloring
2 c. flour, sifted
1 tbsp. cocoa
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. vinegar

Cream together sugar and Crisco. Add eggs, food coloring and vanilla, sifted flour, cocoa and salt, 3 times alternate dry ingredients with buttermilk. Beat until smooth. Mix soda and vinegar. Fold into batter. Bake for 25-30 minutes at 350 degrees.

ICING:

1 c. milk
1/2 c. Crisco
1 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. vanilla
Pinch of salt

Cook flour and milk until thick paste. Let cool. Cream sugar, vanilla and Crisco together. Add flour mixture, whip until smooth.
