STEAMED PEARS
4 pears
4 tbsp. honey

Cut stem ends of pears about 1 inch down and reserve for lids. Core the pears to make a deep cavity, but do not cut through the bottom. Put honey in the pear cores and replace the tops. Place each pear in a custard dish and steam for 15 to 30 minutes, depending upon size and ripeness of pears. Serve hot in the steaming dishes.

COMMENTARY: This is supposed to be soothing to an inflamed throat.

VARIATION: Use 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon with the honey for each pear. Stuffing the pear cavities with dates or nut meats before adding the honey adds another dimension. Microwave for 4 to 5 minutes under high setting can be done instead of steaming.

Since microwave ovens vary in power, you may need to adjust your cooking time.
