RED CAKE AND FROSTING 
CAKE:

1/2 c. Crisco
2 eggs
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
3 tbsp. cocoa
2 oz. red food coloring
1 c. buttermilk
2 c. flour

Make a paste with cocoa and red food coloring and set aside.

Mix first 4 ingredients in mixer and beat well until fluffy. Add red paste, 1 teaspoon salt, 2 cups flour and 1 cup buttermilk. Add this mixture, alternating liquid and flour; mix well.

Fold in 1 tablespoon vinegar and 1 teaspoon baking soda. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes in 9x13-inch pan or 2 (9 inch) round pans.

FROSTING:

1 c. milk
4 tbsp. flour

Cook over slow heat until thick; set aside to cool. 1/2 c. Crisco 1 c. granulated sugar

Beat butter and Crisco, then slowly add sugar. Pour in white sauce and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Mix well. Frost cake.
