SPICED PEARS, PEACHES OR APPLES 
5 c. brown sugar
2 c. vinegar
2 cinnamon sticks
2 tbsp. whole cloves
4 qt. pears, peaches or crabapples

Peel and slice fruit. Cook sugar, vinegar and spices. Strain out the whole cloves. Return mixture to pot. Add fruit to pot slowly and cook until tender. Chill. Serve as condiment.
