DARK BREAD | |
2 c. boiling water 3 shredded wheat biscuits 1/3 c. shortening 1/3 c. molasses 1/4 c. sugar or less 1/2 tsp. salt 1 env. dry yeast 1/3 c. lukewarm water 5 c. flour (approximately) Pour 2 cups boiling water over 3 shredded wheat biscuits. Add shortening, molasses, sugar and salt. Soak 1 envelope dry yeast in 1/3 cup lukewarm water. When shredded wheat mixture is lukewarm, add yeast and flour. Knead. (Dough is sticky!) Let rise until double. Punch down. Put in 2 greased loaf pans and let double again. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 to 60 minutes. (This delicious dark bread is a Randall family favorite.) |
